When the lights go out at your home, typically you make your way to the drawer with the flashlights or the cabinet with the extra candles, secure an alternative source of light and wait it out. If an emergency popped up, most would be able to make their way to an exit if needed, due to familiarity to the home’s layout and the small space between most rooms in a home and an exit.
However, the story could be different in large offices or manufacturing facilities. To get from an upper level office to a ground floor exit could be precarious in dark stairwells. And to make your way across a large production floor in the dark, with hundreds of other employees, that could be dangerous for all.
Why use Glow-in-the-Dark Floor Tape?
While OSHA requires exit signs to be lit in power failures, having emergency paths outlined with glow-in-the dark tape leading to the exits could be a life-saving investment. According to several news reports covering the 9/11 Commission hearings in 2003, survivors who survived the 9/11 attacks told investigators they followed the “funny green glow stuff” down dark stairwells to safety outside the building.
The funny green glow stuff was glow-in-the-dark materials placed on handrails, stairs, doors and landings, meant to guide people out of the building in the event of a power failure.
In fact, in 2004, New York City adopted building codes that require photo luminescent markings along exit paths in all commercial buildings 75 feet tall and higher. Today, this is a safety ordinance that has been adopted in many cities throughout the U.S.
Stop-painting.com has two ways to offer you glow-in-the-dark safety products.
First is our bulk glow-in-the-dark tape – this is a low profile adhesive tape that is a grayish-greenish-whitish color in lit rooms, and glows a greenish color when it is dark. We offer a huge assortment of glowing tape in a variety of quantities. Choose from a roll with 30-feet of tape or as much as a case of 72 rolls. Each roll contains long-lasting glow-in-the-dark tape that’s been treated with powerful elements that absorb light and then emit it for up to 10 hours at a time during darkness. It features a solvent-based acrylic adhesive plus a 5-mil poly-coated release liner.
In sudden darkness, the tape is immediately visible. These tapes are a non-electric safety system that easily and inexpensively affixes to walls, handrails, columns, around door frames and along stairways and baseboards. This tape only comes in the one greenish-white color.
Premium Superior Mark™ Floor Tape
Our second option is our premium product, Superior Mark™ floor tape. This option is preferable to those that want premium floor tape with
industrial strength adhesive, in typical safety colors like blue, green, yellow, black and red – but with a glow-in-the-dark property that lights a path for employees during a power failure or other emergency situation.
Stop-Painting.com manufactures Superior Mark™ floor tape ourselves. It has a patented design that sets the standard in industrial strength marking tape. Nothing beats Superior Mark™ for fast installation, easy maintenance and maximum strength for a tape that holds up under the heaviest industrial traffic. Superior Mark™ Floor Tape is designed with beveled edges and a recessed, highway grade adhesive for durability and top performance. Superior Mark™ products are available as floor-tape and other floor markers. For clients that need a glow-in-the-dark option, but still require the qualities of a premium tape, Superior Mark™ tape is the best choice for a Glow and Show product.
